맥스 핀커스 Max Pinckers

1988년 브뤼셀에서 태어난 벨기에 사진작가 맥스 핀커스는 2008년부터 2012년까지 겐트 왕립예술학교(Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent)에서 공부했고, 네권의 사진집을 출판했으며 유럽과 여러 나라에서 많은 전시를 했다. 2016년  <Two Kinds of Memory and Memory Itself>시리즈로 LOBA 최종 후보에 올랐으며, 2018년 평양의 일상 시민을 담은 <Red Ink> 시리즈로 LOBA 대상을 수여했다. 
맥스 핀커스는  북한과 미국과의 정치적 갈등이 절정에 달했던 시점(2017년 8월)에,  저널리스트 에반 오스노스(Evan Osnos)와 함께 시사주간지 <뉴요커>의 기사를 위해 4일간 북한을 방문했다. 북한의 엄격한 감독 하에 촬영하였는데, 그는 마주친 상황에서도 평양의 일상을 인간미 있고 명백하게 기록하였다. 그동안 서구에서 북한을 다룬 사진들이 대부분 프로파간다와 이데올로기에 치우친 것에 반해, 그는 휴머니티를 중심에 두고, 주어진 환경에서 인물을 그대로 담아 전세계에서 높은 평가를 받았다.  

Pinckers was born in 1988 in Brussels, Belgium. He gained a BA (2008–2010) and a MFA (2010–2012) in photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, Belgium. From 2015 to 2017 he was a nominee member of Magnum Photos before leaving the agency.
Sean O'Hagan, writing in <The Guardian>, has described the format of Pinckers' second book, <Will They Sing Like Raindrops or Leave Me Thirsty>(2014) as "sitting between conceptual and documentary, while upending expectations of each" as it "mixes documentary photography with staged scenes reminiscent of Bollywood movies." He has self-published the books <The Fourth Wall>(2012); <Will They Sing Like Raindrops or Leave Me Thirsty>(2014), which won a Photographic Museum of Humanity grant); and <Red Ink>(2018), which won the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. Pinckers has also won the Edward Steichen Award Laureate.
